Houthi commander reportedly killed in clashes with Yemen army
A Houthi commander was reportedly killed during clashes with Yemen’s army.
State-run Saba TV reported that Houthi leader Mohammed Harith Ali Mutlaq al-Alawi was killed during clashes on the country’s western coast.
The report did not provide further details.
The development came a day after the government-aligned National Resistance Forces announced the death of another Houthi commander, Kamel Khalil Nasser al-Wazir, along with several of his companions in the al-Kadha area, west of Taiz governorate in southwestern Yemen.
The reported deaths came amid an escalation in fighting between government forces and the Houthis in areas west of Taiz on Thursday.
The latest clashes represent one of the most significant rounds of fighting in Taiz since the UN-brokered truce in 2022. The United Nations has warned of the risk that Yemen could return to widespread conflict.
The Houthis have controlled the capital, Sanaa, and several other cities since September 2014. The internationally recognized government and its allied forces control large parts of southern, eastern and western Yemen.
