Hermann stars as South Africa beat Zimbabwe to win Namibia T20 tri-series

Jordan Hermann produced a career-best 53 as South Africa beat Zimbabwe by 48 runs in the final of the T20 tri-series in Windhoek on Sunday.

Batting first after winning the toss, South Africa posted an imposing 205 for five in their 20 overs, with Hermann providing the platform for a commanding total.

The young batter struck 53 from just 29 deliveries, hitting eight fours and a six before his innings came to an end when he miscued a delivery from Brad Evans, with Ryan Burl taking the catch at long-on.

Hermann was named Player of the Match for his decisive contribution.

South Africa’s batting effort also received valuable support from Cameron Esterhuizen and Dewald Brevis, who both contributed 32.

Zimbabwe’s chase got off to a disastrous start as they slipped to four wickets down for just 23 runs. Their problems continued as they reached 81 for eight, leaving them with little realistic chance of chasing down South Africa’s target.

However, Brad Evans produced a remarkable late counterattack to give Zimbabwe some hope.

Evans smashed an unbeaten 56 from 31 balls, including four sixes and four fours. He shared a 52-run ninth-wicket partnership with Kundai Matigimu, who scored 19.

Zimbabwe eventually reached 157 all out in 18 overs, falling 48 runs short.

For South Africa, Bjorn Fortuin and Donovan Jansen claimed three wickets each, helping the Proteas complete a convincing victory.

The result caps an impressive campaign for South Africa, who had already beaten Zimbabwe twice during the league phase of the competition.

The experimental South African side is now set to turn its attention to a three-match ODI series against hosts Namibia, beginning on Wednesday.

South Africa went into the tournament without regular captain Temba Bavuma, who was rested, while fast bowler Kagiso Rabada was unavailable through injury.
