Guyana Amazon Warriors extend unbeaten home run with win over Jamaica Kingsmen
The Guyana Amazon Warriors secured an eight-wicket victory over the Jamaica Kingsmen at Providence Stadium, chasing down a target of 160 with 16 balls remaining in their Caribbean Premier League (CPL) match on September 5.
The Kingsmen, put into bat, struggled to build momentum against a disciplined Warriors bowling attack. Dwaine Pretorius took two wickets in three overs, dismissing Kirk McKenzie for 1 and Keacy Carty for 18, both lbw. Khary Pierre also claimed two wickets, bowling Usman Khan and dismissing Maaz Sadaqat caught behind for 35 runs off 34 balls.

Wickets continued to fall steadily during the middle overs, with Keemo Paul scoring 15 and Rovman Powell departing for a golden duck to Mohammad Nabi in quick succession, leaving the Kingsmen at 83 for 5 in the 13th over.
Hassan Khan provided valuable resistance, scoring an unbeaten 62 from 29 balls, including six sixes, to propel the Kingsmen to a total of 159 for 7. Odean Smith contributed 13 runs before being run out with two balls remaining, and Vitel Lawes remained not out at the close of the innings.
Chasing 160, Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Mavendra Dindyal put on 46 runs in under five overs during the Powerplay. Dindyal scored 33 runs off 17 balls, including four sixes, before falling to Hunain Shah. Gurbaz continued, reaching 54 off 35 balls with five fours and three sixes, before being caught out by Rovman Powell off Maaz Sadaqat in the 13th over with the score at 114.
Captain Shai Hope and Shimron Hetmyer then guided the Warriors to victory. Hope remained unbeaten on 39 from 35 balls, while Hetmyer scored an unbeaten 30 off 17 deliveries. They sealed the win in the 18th over without the required run rate becoming a challenge.
For the Kingsmen, only Hunain Shah and Maaz Sadaqat took a wicket each, while their bowlers conceded runs at almost nine per over as the Warriors maintained a chase rate of 9.23.
The victory extends the Guyana Amazon Warriors’ unbeaten run at home this season. The Jamaica Kingsmen will need to recover swiftly to maintain their pursuit of a playoff position.
