GNU officials launch plan for journalism institute in Tripoli

Officials of the Ministry of Technical and Vocational Education and the General Press Authority under the Government of national Unity (GNU) have held the first meeting to begin planning a new journalism institute in Tripoli, following a decision by the Minister of Technical and Vocational Education.

The session, held at the General Press Authority on Sunday, set out initial proposals for the institute’s structure, including its programmes, target students and legal framework.

The proposed institute would be open to applicants of all ages and academic backgrounds, offering practical, skills-based training aimed at preparing students for work in journalism.
It is intended to help address shortages of qualified staff in media organisations and support the development of Libya’s media sector.

Participants agreed to draft an implementation plan and complete the necessary studies ahead of submitting the project for ministerial approval.
