Following visits to Tripoli and Benghazi, Fidan stresses Turkey’s “One Libya” policy

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said his visits to Tripoli and Benghazi demonstrated in practical terms his country’s policy of supporting a united Libya without distinguishing between the country’s west, east and south, stressing that Ankara would continue to support dialogue and cooperation among Libya’s different regions.

In a post on his X account, Fidan said the visit included what he described as “productive and comprehensive” meetings in Tripoli and Benghazi, covering bilateral relations, the political process, regional developments and security issues.

He said that in Tripoli he met with Government of National Unity Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibah, Presidential Council Head Mohamed Menfi and High Council of State Head Mohamed Takala, along with several other officials, including the prime minister’s National Security Adviser Ibrahim Dbeibah, Acting Defense Minister Abdulsalam Al-Zoubi, Interior Minister Emad Al-Trabelsi, Chief of the General Staff Salah Al-Din Al-Namroush and Military Intelligence Chief Mahmoud Hamza.

Fidan added that his meetings in Benghazi included Khalifa Haftar, his deputy Saddam Haftar, House of Representatives Speaker Aguila Saleh and Director General of the Libya Development and Reconstruction Fund Belgassem Haftar. The meetings addressed the political and security situation and ways to strengthen cooperation between the two countries.

Fidan stressed that Turkish-Libyan cooperation in the fields of security and defense represents a strategic element contributing to Libya’s stability and regional security, noting that during his stay in Tripoli he visited the command of the Turkish Armed Forces task force in Libya.

The Turkish foreign minister emphasized that his country does not view Libya’s peace and stability as separate from its own security and stability, stressing the need for Libyans to be able to build their future freely, safely and prosperously.

He said Turkey would continue, in line with the Turkish president’s vision, to support stronger dialogue and cooperation between western and eastern Libya and contribute to achieving peace, stability and prosperity in the country.
