GCC Secretary General and Egyptian Foreign Minister Discuss Regional Security

GCC Secretary-General Jasem Mohammad Al-Budaiwi met with Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty on Tuesday, in El Alamein, with both officials affirming the strength of Gulf-Egypt relations and discussing regional developments.

The two sides discussed a number of issues of shared interest and ways to strengthen cooperation between GCC states and Egypt across multiple sectors, in line with mutual goals and interests.

They also reviewed the latest progress on the GCC-Egypt Joint Action Plan for 2024-2028, along the outcomes of the first edition of the Gulf-Egypt Investment Forum held recently, affirming their commitment to continuing the forum given its value in boosting trade exchange between the two sides.

A number of proposals aimed at further strengthening Gulf-Egypt relations for the benefit of both peoples were also reviewed.

On regional developments, both sides stressed the importance of supporting all regional and international efforts aimed at reinforcing security and stability, and affirmed the need to resolve all disputes and outstanding issues through peaceful and diplomatic means, via constructive dialogue among all parties to conflicts.

Al-Budaiwi renewed his thanks and appreciation to Egypt for its support of GCC states in the face of what he described as “treacherous Iranian aggressions.”

For his part, Abdelatty affirmed that Egypt renews its solidarity with GCC states and its rejection of any assault on their territory, stressing that the security of GCC states is an inseparable part of Egyptian national security.

Tuesday’s meeting continues a pattern of close coordination between Cairo and the GCC since Iranian strikes on Gulf states in March 2026.

Egypt joined a virtual fourth Egypt-GCC ministerial meeting that month, where Abdelatty stressed the need to prevent the conflict from widening, protect Gulf states from further attacks, and safeguard freedom of maritime navigation.

He also met Al-Budaiwi in person in Riyadh days later, where he again reiterated Egypt’s “full solidarity” with Gulf nations and described GCC security as “a fundamental pillar” of Egypt’s own national security.

The talks in El Alamein reflect the steady deepening of Gulf-Egypt coordination on both the economic and security fronts over the past several months, from expanding investment ties through the new Gulf-Egypt forum to reaffirming solidarity in the aftermath of regional attacks.

With both sides describing Gulf security as intertwined with Egypt’s own national security, the relationship appears set to remain a consistent feature of regional diplomacy in the months ahead.
