Gabon Tests National Cybersecurity Readiness With Simulated Cyberattack Exercise
The simulation involved a cyberattack scenario in which participating teams were required to analyse the threat, activate their response procedures and coordinate their actions.
Gabon has strengthened its national cybersecurity preparedness through a simulated cyberattack exercise involving several government administrations.
The national cybersecurity exercise was held on September 11, 2026, at the headquarters of the Agence Nationale des Infrastructures Numériques et des Fréquences (ANINF). The exercise was designed to test the country’s ability to detect, respond to and coordinate a response to a cyber incident.
The simulation involved a cyberattack scenario in which participating teams were required to analyse the threat, activate their response procedures and coordinate their actions. The exercise provided an opportunity to assess existing cyber defence mechanisms while identifying areas requiring further improvement.
The initiative was led by ANINF Director-General Alberto Mounguengui Moudoki and forms part of the strategic partnership between Gabon and the United States. The exercise also received technical support from MITRE Corporation.
By placing participating administrations in realistic conditions, the exercise sought to assess their collective readiness to respond to cyber threats. It also focused on strengthening coordination between institutions and improving the country’s overall cyber defence posture.
ANINF said the exercise goes beyond a simulation by providing an assessment of the collective preparedness of government administrations and helping identify measures needed to build a more coordinated, proactive and resilient national cybersecurity framework.
The agency said the initiative reinforces its commitment to strengthening digital security and supporting Gabon’s efforts to build greater digital sovereignty and resilience. The exercise aligns with President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema’s vision for a more sovereign, resilient and secure Gabon in the digital space.
