Who was Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi?
Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi was the second president of the Republic of Yemen after unification.
He officially assumed power in 2012 during the transitional period following the 2011 protests, before announcing his resignation in April 2012 and transferring his powers to the Presidential Leadership Council.
He was elected president in 2012 as the sole consensus candidate, agreed upon by the General People’s Congress Party and the parties of the Joint Meeting Parties coalition following the events of 2011.
Hadi held several prominent military and political positions throughout his career, most notably serving as vice president for many years before becoming president.
His name is associated with managing one of the most complex periods in modern Yemeni history, marked by war and political and security divisions.
Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi is the second president of the Republic of Yemen and the former Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces and Security Forces. Prior to that, he served as Vice President from 1994 to 2012.
