Libya’s Public Prosecutor has ordered the pre-trial detention of a foreign national accused of colluding with a civil registry employee in Tripoli to forge a family registration document.
In a statement, the prosecutor’s office said the falsified record enabled the suspect to obtain a public sector post at the Tobruk Security Directorate.
It added that the forged family document was also used to generate 15 national identification numbers, which were then used by members of the suspect’s family to access full citizenship rights.
Prosecutors have ordered the suspension of the fraudulent national numbers and the tracing of any benefits obtained through them. Authorities have also been instructed to locate and arrest the civil registry employee involved in the scheme.
