Foreign Minister Joins IGAD Counterparts in Djibouti for 74th Extraordinary Council Session — Eye Radio


JUBA / DJIBOUTI CITY — South Sudan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ambassador James Pitia Morgan, joined regional counterparts in Djibouti City for the 74th Extraordinary Session of the IGAD Council of Ministers.

The assembly, which kicked off today, Tuesday, September 15, 2026, brings together Foreign Ministers and designated representatives from IGAD Member States to address peace, security, and institutional governance across the region.

The ministerial session centers on reviewing security developments, evaluating ongoing diplomatic efforts, and coordinating collective approaches to regional stability.

Delegates are examining institutional matters, including the implementation of the IGAD Treaty to align the organization’s mandate with current priorities.

As a principal decision-making organ of IGAD, the Council of Ministers formulates policy, oversees regional programs, and shapes joint responses among Member States.

According to an IGAD statement, the session will conclude with a formal communiqué detailing the resolutions and decisions reached by the council.
