Florida has 12 of the best hospitals in the United States – Sun Sentinel

When doing your hospital research, take note of the newest rankings.

Twelve Florida hospitals rank among the best in the nation for at least one specialty in the newly released 2026-27 U.S. News & World Report “Best Hospitals” report.

Each year, U.S. News evaluates close to 6,000 hospitals, adhering to a rigorous eligibility process that considers factors like complexity of care, patient volume and the level of care a hospital can offer.

This year, the 12 Florida hospitals that ranked among the best nationally for a range of one to five specialties are located throughout the state:

• Mayo Clinic-Florida in Jacksonville (cancer, cardiology, diabetes, gastroenterology, geriatrics, neurology, orthopedics, pulmonology, urology).
• UF Health Shands Hospital in Gainesville (cancer, geriatrics, neurology, obstetrics, pulmonology).
• Cleveland Clinic Weston (cardiology, gastrointerology, geriatrics, neurology, pulmonology).
• Brooks Rehabilitation Center in Jacksonville (rehabilitation).
• H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center and Research Institute in Tampa (cancer, urology).
• Tampa General Hospital in Tampa (diabetes, gastroenterology, obstetrics, pulmonology, urology).
• Baptist Health Doctors Hospital in Coral Gables (orthopedics).
• Jackson Health Miami (rehabilitation).
• Baptist Health Baptist Hospital in Miami (pulmonology).
• University of Miami Hospital and Clinics-UHealth Tower in Miami (cancer, cardiology, geriatrics, neurology, opthomology).
• Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami Beach (geriatrics, neurology).
• Advent Health Orlando (cardiology, diabetes, gastroenterology, obstetrics).

“It’s about creating a system that consistently delivers excellent outcomes, minimizes complications, prioritizes patient safety and provides a positive experience for every patient,” said Kymberlee Manni, CEO of University of Miami Hospital and Clinics. “That is what we’ve done.”

University of Miami’s Bascom Palmer Eye Institute remains the No. 1 eye hospital in the nation for the 25th year.

For patients looking for the best hospitals in Florida in specific specialties, U.S. News & World Report also published its first state rankings in four categories: cancer, cardiology, orthopedics, and rehabilitation.

The University of Miami’s Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center ranked as the top hospital in Florida for cancer care. Sylvester has 12 locations in South Florida, as well as one in Naples. The Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville ranked as the No. 1  hospital in the state for cardiology and orthopedics, and Jackson Health in Miami ranked as the No. 1 hospital in the state for rehabilitation.

In South Florida, the Cleveland Clinic Weston has been named the best regional hospital. Baptist Health Baptist Hospital came in second and Mount Sinai Medical Center ranked third.

“Because patients are going to seek care in their own communities, we highlight hospitals in each state and each major metro area that are performing really great care across a wide breadth of procedures and conditions,” explained Chelsey Wen, U.S. News senior health data analyst.

Through surveys with patients, U.S. News learned that loyalty, research, and location preference drive hospital choice.

“When patients and their loved ones are researching a new health issue, a majority select a hospital first or select a hospital and a doctor at the same time. About 20% of respondents would even switch providers in order to receive care in the hospital they prefer,” the U.S. News Survey shows.
