FilmOne Entertainment becomes Nigeria’s sole representative among six African buyers at TIFF’s new market

TIFF: The Market launched alongside the 51st Toronto International Film Festival, running from September 10 to 16, 2026. The market drew more than 130 buyers from 49 countries, positioning it as one of the largest new entry points into global film trade this year. Of the six African companies selected, FilmOne was the sole Nigerian representative. The other five, Filmfinity, Sun Africa Group, Forefront Media Group and Digicine Motion Pictures/Studios, are based in South Africa, alongside Hakka Distribution of Tunisia.

The selection places FilmOne in direct competition and collaboration with buyers from established film markets worldwide, at a moment when African content, and Nollywood in particular, is drawing growing commercial interest from international distributors and platforms.

In Toronto, FilmOne’s team held meetings with international sellers and industry stakeholders focused on acquiring new titles and building distribution partnerships. The company said Nollywood content was central to those conversations, as it looks to expand the reach of African cinema into new markets.

Announcing its participation, FilmOne Entertainment said:

“Nigeria has a seat at the table. From September 10 to 16 in Toronto, we’re here to buy, to build, and to keep opening the door wider for African cinema.”
