FC Porto line up move for Gabriel Mec, claim in Brazil

Next Friday, September 4, the summer transfer window closes in Portugal. In the case of clubs such as FC Porto, which compete in UEFA competitions, there is another important date as well: September 2, the deadline for submitting the lists of players registered for European competitions.

With those deadlines getting ever closer, the SAD led by André Villas-Boas remains highly active in the market. Several players are attracting interest, including Deniz Gül and Dominik Prpic, meaning the time to find alternatives and offset possible departures may be limited. In that sense, there are several targets identified by the Dragons.

It is in this context that Gabriel Mec, a young Brazilian from Grémio in Porto Alegre, has been linked with FC Porto. Porto’s SAD is conducting several negotiations in parallel, with any potential signing depending on departures. It is a complex operation which, however, may not lead to changes in the squad.

That scenario already includes the possible arrival of Santiago Giménez at the Dragão. The agreement with Milan is done, with only logistical details remaining to bring the Mexican international striker from Italy to the Invicta city, in a process that should be completed between today and tomorrow.

Gabriel Mec is 18 years old and can play in any of the three attacking positions. In the central channel, however, he is more accustomed to operating as a second striker or attacking midfielder than as an out-and-out centre-forward.

A Brazil youth international, the creative Grémio player, in a team managed by Luís Castro, is under contract with the Brazilian club until June 30 next year. From January onwards, he will be able to commit to any club on a free transfer, but a possible departure at FC Porto could lead the SAD to move now and secure the player’s signing immediately.

According to information coming from Brazil, the Dragons are preparing a formal offer of 8 million euros for Gabriel Mec to present to Grémio.
