WASHINGTON (TNND) — FBI Director Kash Patel on Thursday said that the agency would be busting fraud during the FIFA World Cup.
“This FBI is incredibly focused on crushing the cruel and corrupt fraud rings that target unsuspecting Americans – especially during major sporting events,” Patel wrote in a lengthy post on X. “Through our targeted investigations, our Internet Crime Complaint Center that triages and farms out reported fraud, as well as our active role in the White House Task Force to Eliminate Fraud @WHFraudTF, every day during the games FBI will be working with our interagency partners and slamming fraudsters.”
Patel also said earlier this month that the FBI would be fighting human trafficking during the World Cup.
“This FBI is working 24/7 to break sex and human trafficking networks worldwide, and we will be highly focused on the threat during the upcoming FIFA tournament,” Patel posted on X on Tuesday.
Patel touted some fraud busts that the FBI had done recently as the World Cup approaches.
“Our recent scam center takedown out of India, where this FBI shut down a massive call scam center operation responsible for $50 million in social security losses for American seniors,” he wrote.
He said that the FBI had a major fraud bust in Minnesota.
