Ex-LB Man Extradited from Colombia to Face Child Exploitation Charges
A former resident of Long Beach wanted for possession of child sex abuse material and for traveling to the country of Tanzania to have sex with a minor has been extradited from Colombia to Los Angeles to face federal charges, officials announced Tuesday.
Ivan Lozano Hernandez, 39, allegedly enticed a minor victim to engage in sexual activity beginning in 2021, according to an indictment returned by a federal grand jury in Los Angeles two years ago.
Hernandez is believed to have been in contact with the victim as early as 2020 when the victim was 14 years old and allegedly directed the teen to send nude images and videos of herself to him, federal prosecutors said.
The complaint alleges that Hernandez traveled to Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, in October 2021 to repeatedly engage in illicit sexual conduct with the victim.
The FBI said it initiated an investigation after the victim’s parents learned of the abuse and reported Hernandez to law enforcement officials in Los Angeles who referred the case to the FBI.
Hernandez was charged in a federal criminal complaint filed in Los Angeles federal court following the execution of a search warrant. He fled the United States at some point thereafter, authorities said.
During the search, investigators seized Hernandez’s electronic devices and allegedly found thousands of images and video depicting child sexual abuse material, according to the FBI.
Investigators believe Hernandez traveled abroad extensively while he was a fugitive before being stopped in July 2025 by police in Medellin, Colombia, who learned that Hernandez was wanted in the United States based on an Interpol Red Notice entered by the FBI.
The indictment charges Hernandez with enticement of a minor to engage in criminal sexual activity; travel with intent to engage in illicit sexual conduct; engaging in illicit sexual conduct in a foreign place; and possession of child pornography.
The defendant faced extradition proceedings in Colombia before being returned to the United States for federal prosecution.
Hernandez was returned to the United States from Bogota, Colombia, on Friday and appeared in federal court Monday for an initial appearance. He was remanded to federal custody in downtown Los Angeles pending trial.
