Eleven people deported to Morocco after being detained over assault on soldiers in Ceuta

The criminal court in Ceuta has ordered the deportation of 11 Moroccans from Spain, prohibiting their return for five years. This decision follows their conviction for attacking a military patrol affiliated with the Regulares forces in Benzú, resulting in injuries of varying severity to four soldiers.

The verdict was issued after the accused confessed to participating in the assault and accepted a two-year prison sentence proposed by prosecutors. An agreement with the defense replaced this sentence with deportation.

The judgment, delivered on Friday, revealed that the convicted individuals were part of a group of irregular migrants suspected of planning an attack on passing vehicles. On Thursday, they targeted a military vehicle with stones, prompting a security operation that resulted in 12 arrests.

The twelfth detainee, however, rejected the plea deal, denying involvement in the assault and claiming he was asleep during the police intervention. The judge has ordered him to remain in pretrial detention until proceedings are completed and a trial date is set.
