Egypt condemns attack on UN patrol in South Sudan

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement on Tuesday denouncing in the strongest terms the armed assault against a United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) patrol, which resulted in casualties among peacekeepers, national police and civilians.

Egypt reaffirmed its categorical rejection of all forms of violence targeting UN personnel and stressed the need to guarantee the safety of peacekeepers and enable them to fulfil their mandate. The statement also underlined the importance of holding perpetrators accountable and bringing them to justice.

Cairo extended condolences to the families of the victims and to the United Nations, wishing a swift recovery for the injured, while reiterating support for efforts aimed at achieving security, stability and peace.
