Ministry of labour, partners validate national child labour policy

The Ministry of Labour, supported by Save the Children and in collaboration with over 14 government ministries and institutions, has initiated the review and validation of South Sudan’s National Child Labour Policy.

The technical review aims to reinforce national frameworks designed to safeguard children from economic exploitation, hazardous work environments, and systemic rights violations while promoting access to primary and secondary education.

The validation workshop convenes representatives from government bodies, development agencies, and key stakeholders to refine the framework, offer technical inputs, and align policy measures with local challenges facing youth across South Sudan.

The session was officially opened by the Director of Administration and Finance, representing the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Labour.

The official underscored the necessity of multi-sectoral coordination and shared institutional responsibility to eliminate hazardous child labor practices and enforce child protection standards effectively.

Ministry representatives confirmed that the finalized policy framework will serve as a strategic guideline to protect vulnerable children from exploitative labor while expanding access to structured educational opportunities nationwide.
