Eastern Libya hit by thousands of power outages

Libya’s General Electricity Company on Saturday confirmed widespread power disruptions across the country’s eastern region, stating that its central emergency center had registered thousands of fault reports since the early morning hours. State-run Libyan News Agency (LANA) reported that the company’s emergency and reporting center received approximately 8,000 reports of sudden power cuts and technical faults beginning Saturday morning.

The company noted that the vast majority of these reported issues had already been addressed through coordination with specialized technical teams deployed across the affected areas. Local media outlet Libya Alahrar TV had earlier reported the blackout affecting the eastern part of the country.

Emergency teams mobilized

Emergency and maintenance crews remained in the field continuing repair operations to fully restore electricity supplies throughout the region, according to the company’s statement. Technical teams worked to isolate remaining faults and reconnect power lines as residents reported ongoing disruptions via the utility’s emergency hotlines.

The state utility did not immediately specify the underlying cause of the widespread outages that affected cities and towns across eastern Libya. Repair efforts continued through Saturday evening as teams worked to clear the remaining backlog of reported faults.
