Drone attack targets Khor Mor gas field in northern Iraq

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – Drone attacks targeted the Khor Mor gas field in the northern Iraqi province of Sulaymaniyah in the early hours of Tuesday.

The attack on the field, which is Iraq’s largest gas field with reserves estimated at 8.2 trillion cubic feet, was part of a coordinated wave of suspected Iranian drone attacks against the Kurdistan region of Iraq.

Iranian official media reported an attack on the gas field, which is operated by the UAE-based Pearl Consortium that includes Dana Gas and Crescent Petroleum.

The gas field supplies the majority of the electricity in Iraqi Kurdistan.

According to reports, the strikes were carried out by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), which targets Iranian Kurdish resistance groups and US interests in the region.

A few days ago, Iraqi Kurdistan’s Prime Minister Masoud Barzani stated that repeated security threats and drone attacks had caused energy companies to cut domestic output, seriously affecting the region’s electrical infrastructure.

The escalation takes place amid significant geopolitical challenges. On Monday, US President Donald Trump said he was ready to resume military action against Iran if diplomatic efforts to reach a nuclear deal and reopen the Strait of Hormuz failed.

Trump stated that he has temporarily stopped military strikes against Iran to give negotiations a chance to work.
