‘DRC-USA Task Force’: Congo Fast-tracks US Mineral Deal as Trump Challenges Xi

Watch this video as Firstpost explains how the Democratic Republic of Congo is fast-tracking its strategic minerals partnership with the United States by formally establishing a dedicated ‘DRC-USA Task Force.’ Following a key cabinet meeting, Kinshasa aims to convert high-level diplomatic agreements—brokered alongside a regional peace framework—into tangible economic and security results.
As part of a broader ‘diversification offensive,’ the DRC is seeking to challenge China’s long-standing dominance over its critical cobalt and copper reserves by bringing in American and European investors like Virtus Minerals, Glencore, and Mercuria. Despite reportedly approving a record $24.8 billion budget focused on growth and infrastructure, Kinshasa faces steep internal hurdles, including ongoing conflict in eastern DR Congo and the deadly Ebola outbreak.
Nevertheless, with copper exports reaching record highs and direct shipments to Western markets doubling, the DRC remains at the centre of the global race for minerals. Alyson Le Grange brings you more on this story on Firstpost Africa.
