NOC chief discusses stronger UK partnership in oil and gas sector

National Oil Corporation (NOC) Chairman Masoud Suleiman held talks with representatives of major British and international companies operating in the oil, gas and energy sectors on prospects for cooperation and strengthening partnerships, as well as transferring modern technologies and expertise to Libya.

The NOC said in a statement that the meeting was attended by several department directors and specialists from the corporation, representatives of the British Embassy in Libya, and the coordinator of the Libyan-British Business Council.

Representatives of BP, Shell, KBR, Vitol and Glencore took part in the meeting, where they reviewed opportunities for joint cooperation, technical capabilities and modern technologies that could help develop the sector, increase production and improve the efficiency of operations and facilities.

Suleiman stressed the importance of turning the outcomes of the meetings into practical cooperation programmes. He directed the corporation’s technical and specialist departments to establish direct working channels with the participating companies, each within its area of expertise, to assess the sector’s needs and identify opportunities and viable projects.

The meeting addressed several priority areas, including developing and increasing oil and gas production, improving facility efficiency, maintenance, asset management and safety, infrastructure development, the use of modern technologies, as well as training, knowledge transfer and national capacity-building.
