Dbeibah says GNU looks forward to greater Qatari role in supporting Libya stability, consensus

The Prime Minister of Libya’s Government of National Unity (GNU) Abdul Hamid Dbeibah discussed on Wednesday with Qatari Minister of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Mohammed bin Abdulaziz Al-Khulaifi developments in bilateral relations and ways to strengthen Qatar’s role in supporting stability and Libya’s political and economic tracks.

Dbeibah welcomed the Qatari minister’s visit to Tripoli and Benghazi, stressing the importance of maintaining communication with various Libyan parties. 

He said the government looked forward to a greater Qatari role in the coming period to support stability and consensus and strengthen regional and international coordination on Libya, according to the government-run Hakomitna platform on Facebook.

The meeting also addressed expanding bilateral cooperation in several sectors, particularly energy and healthcare, and translating economic cooperation between the two countries into broader practical programs and projects.

The two sides also discussed developments in the quadrilateral cooperation mechanism involving Libya, Qatar, Turkey and Italy on irregular migration, including building on the launch of a pilot operations room and strengthening joint programs for capacity building, combating illegal migration and supporting voluntary return programs.

Dbeibah had previously called, during a meeting with Qatari Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani in January, for building on relations between Libya and Qatar and translating them into practical programs and projects in infrastructure, energy and services.
