Dbeibah, Egypt’s PM discuss economic, energy and reconstruction co-operation

Prime Minister, Abdulhamid Dbeibah, held talks on Thursday with his Egyptian counterpart, Mostafa Madbouly, in New Alamein City, as part of an official visit to Egypt.

The meeting was attended by Libya’s National Security Adviser Ibrahim Dbeibah, Minister of State for Communication and Political Affairs Walid Al-Lafi, head of the executive team for presidential initiatives and strategic projects Mostafa Al-Manea, and National Oil Corporation chairman Masoud Suleiman.

Senior Egyptian officials were also present, including Electricity and Renewable Energy Minister Mahmoud Esmat and Petroleum Minister Karim Badawi.

The two sides discussed ways to strengthen bilateral co-operation, focusing on preparations for the next session of the Libyan-Egyptian High Joint Committee. This includes updating existing agreements, drafting new memoranda of understanding, and establishing a mechanism to follow up on implementation.

Talks also covered infrastructure and reconstruction, with an emphasis on increasing the role of Egyptian companies in development projects in Libya. 

Both sides explored expanding co-operation in the oil and gas sectors, including a proposed gas interconnection project, as well as refining, exploration and production, and making use of available infrastructure in both countries to support energy security and shared interests.

The meeting also addressed plans to organise a Libyan-Egyptian economic forum on the sidelines of the joint committee meetings, bringing together government and private sector representatives to boost partnerships and launch new projects.
