Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity, Abdulhamid Dbeibah, met on Tuesday with US President’s Senior Adviser for Arab and African Affairs, Massad Boulos, and his accompanying delegation, in the presence of Deputy Minister of Defense Lieutenant General Abdulsalam Al-Zoubi.
According to the government’s Hakomitna platform, the meeting focused on the latest political and economic developments in Libya. Both sides exchanged views on a number of issues of mutual interest and stressed the importance of continued coordination and unified efforts to support stability, while also reviewing bilateral relations and ways to strengthen cooperation between the two countries.
The meeting was also attended by US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Kyle Liston and the US Chargé d’Affaires to Libya, Jeremy Berndt.
Prior to the meeting with Dbeibah, Boulos and his delegation held talks with Central Bank of Libya Governor Naji Issa, Audit Bureau President Khaled Shakshak, and National Oil Corporation Chairman Masoud Suleman to discuss Libya’s latest financial and economic developments.
Boulos and his delegation arrived in Tripoli earlier on Tuesday from the city of Misrata, where they met with the city’s leaders in an effort to rally support for his initiative aimed at advancing a political settlement to Libya’s crisis.
Following the meeting, Misrata’s elders, military leadership, and civil society representatives said they reject any political settlement that would reproduce Libya’s crisis or pave the way for individuals named in UN reports over corruption or human rights violations. They stressed that any solution must be based on a clear constitutional framework backed by international guarantees that preserve Libya’s unity and sovereignty.
Boulos said Washington has not yet presented a written initiative, but is instead conducting consultations with various Libyan parties to formulate a shared vision.
