Day 1 Commonwealth Games Results From Finals: Jamaica claims two early golds – World-Track and Field

GLASGOW, Scotland — Jamaica struck early at the 2026 Commonwealth Games on Monday, collecting two gold medals on the opening day of athletics finals as Romaine Beckford and Demario Prince delivered standout performances. Here are the Glasgow 2026 Games day 1 results.

Beckford cleared 2.25 meters to secure Jamaica’s first gold of the Games in the men’s high jump, winning on countback ahead of India’s Sarvesh Anil Kushare, who matched the height. Hours later, Prince powered to victory in the men’s 110 meters hurdles, clocking 13.17 seconds to give the Caribbean nation a second title and early momentum in Glasgow.

Elsewhere on the track, Kenya asserted its traditional strength in distance events, sweeping the podium in the men’s 3,000 meters steeplechase. Edmund Serem held off compatriot Simon Koech to win in 8 minutes, 18.23 seconds, with Koech finishing in 8:18.59 and Leonard Kipkemoi Bett taking bronze.

Australia’s Rose Davies produced a commanding run in the women’s 10,000 meters, crossing in 31:39.32 to claim gold ahead of Kenya’s Diana Wanza and Rwanda’s Florence Niyonkuru.

Canada’s Ethan Katzberg added a field highlight, launching 80.97 meters to win the men’s hammer throw.
