Cuba States No Negotiations With US, Cites Economic Damage | Ratopati

Havana. Cuba has stated that no talks are currently underway with the United States, and no agenda has been set for future talks. Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez made this statement amidst the Trump administration’s increasing economic pressure on Cuba.

Speaking to the media on Monday, Rodriguez clarified that there are no ongoing talks between Cuba and the United States. According to him, even previous contacts have now stopped.

According to the Cuban government, due to the US embargo in place for decades, Cuba’s economy has suffered losses amounting to $8 billion between March 2025 and February 2026. Cuba claims this is the largest annual loss to date and 7% higher than the previous reporting period. Rodriguez stated that Cuba’s energy crisis has worsened in recent months due to US sanctions. According to him, in some places, people are receiving only two to three hours of electricity per day, or even less.

Rodriguez accused the US of increasing economic and energy pressure on Cuba, calling the US policy collective punishment. He also claimed that Cuba is not a threat to the United States, calling the US blockade ‘genocidal’. Meanwhile, another phase of the Cuba-US dispute will be seen at the United Nations. The United Nations General Assembly will discuss Cuba’s annual proposal demanding an end to the US embargo on October 27 and 28.
