Chinese investment in Egypt surpasses $10B, cooperation expands

CAIRO, Egypt (MNTV) — Chinese investment in Egypt has exceeded $10 billion, Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly said as the government reviewed new initiatives aimed at expanding economic cooperation with Beijing across several strategic sectors.

Madbouly made the announcement while chairing the third meeting of the Ministerial Committee for the China Unit, where ministers and senior officials assessed progress under the Egypt-China Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and discussed future areas of collaboration.

He said relations between Cairo and Beijing continue to advance, supported by the leadership of both countries and a shared commitment to strengthening economic ties and supporting Egypt’s development priorities.

The prime minister noted that Chinese companies are now active across a wide range of industries in Egypt, saying the level of investment reflects growing confidence among Chinese businesses in the country’s investment climate and expanding commercial opportunities.

Government officials also reviewed ongoing bilateral projects and stressed the need for closer coordination among ministries to ensure the timely implementation of joint initiatives.

Cabinet spokesperson Mohamed El-Homsany said the meeting examined a pipeline of proposed investments and development projects with Chinese partners in several priority sectors.

The discussions covered cooperation in industrial development, advanced technology, telecommunications, transportation, mining, seawater desalination, renewable energy, agriculture, specialized engineering and chemical industries, as well as expanding Egyptian agricultural exports.

According to the government, the planned projects are expected to promote technology transfer, strengthen domestic manufacturing, attract additional Chinese investment and contribute to Egypt’s long-term sustainable development objectives.

Officials also reviewed progress on existing projects and reaffirmed both countries’ commitment to broadening economic cooperation through continued collaboration in strategic sectors.
