Kampala, Uganda. Local Government Minister Justine Nameere has voiced support for a tough approach in fighting corruption, saying the country must confront the vice regardless of who leads the effort.
Nameere, a former media personality who transitioned into public service and now serves in government, said she supports Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba’s position on corruption, arguing that the fight against graft requires firmness and commitment.
“Corruption must stop. That is why, for me, I do not care how tough Gen. Muhoozi is on corruption. I support him,” Nameere said.
The minister’s comments come amid growing public debate over corruption, accountability and the management of public resources in Uganda.
Nameere said the fight against corruption should not be reduced to political differences, but should instead focus on protecting national resources and improving service delivery to citizens.
As Minister for Local Government, Nameere oversees a sector that plays a critical role in implementing government programmes and delivering services through district and municipal administrations, where accountability remains a major concern.
Her remarks have drawn attention to the wider discussion on how Uganda can strengthen anti-corruption efforts and ensure public officials are held accountable for their actions.
Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, who serves as Chief of Defence Forces, has in recent months been vocal about issues of discipline, efficiency and the need to address corruption within public institutions.
Nameere said she would continue supporting initiatives aimed at promoting integrity and better governance, stressing that corruption undermines development and affects ordinary citizens most.
