Mamelodi Sundowns defender Grant Kekana has made it clear that they are not reading too much into Kaizer Chiefs’ defeat against Siwelele FC last week, as he urged the reigning champions to make a strong finish in their penultimate home game.
Sundowns have a big two weeks ahead of them, and need to set the tone this evening when they take on Kaizer Chiefs at Loftus Stadium in the Betway Premiership. They go into the game on the back of two victories over Polokwane City, which put them back on top of the standings with three matches to go.

“Obviously, it was crucial to get back-to-back wins (against Polokwane City), considering we drew the past games. So, the confidence is back up with the lads. We obviously want to finish strong. We are all in good spirits, and we can’t wait for Wednesday’s game,” Kekana told the Sundowns media department.
“It’s going to be a tough game. I think they have done well, especially in the second round, to be in the position they are in. Despite them having lost against Siwelele, we know what their form has been like, so we will be wary of it. But we will obviously plan to nullify it on the day. It will be a tough game, but one that we will be prepared for. We are taking it one game at a time. When we get to the final, that’s when we will be able to prepare and focus on it. Right now, our main focus is the game against Kaizer Chiefs, and we will be looking to be as well prepared as we can, so that we can get a positive outcome on the day.”

The game against Chiefs is sold out, and Kekana is banking on their supporters to back them on what’s expected to be another tough test.
“We want to hear our supporters sing as loud as they can for us when they are in the stands. I think this is the second last home game we play, so we want to finish in style, and we are going to need their voices in the stands.”
Sundowns have a two-point lead at the top of the standings after second-placed Orlando Pirates beat Stellenbosch FC 2-0 last night. They have an opportunity to open a five-point gap tonight to edge themselves closer to a ninth consecutive final.
