Cameroon Youth Council Raises Alarm over Femicide and Infanticide

YAOUNDÉ, PAV – The Cameroon National Youth Council has added its voice to the growing cases of femicide and infanticide in Cameroon, calling for stronger efforts to protect life and prevent violence.

The Cameroon National Youth Council (CNYC) held a press briefing in Yaoundé on Thursday, 10 September 2026, under the theme “Protect Life to Consolidate Peace”, in an effort to draw greater public attention to the issue.

Fadimatou Iyawa Ousmanou, president of the Cameroon National Youth Council, used the occasion to highlight the need for greater awareness and collective action to address violence against women and children. Her intervention comes amidst growing apprehension over cases of violence targeting vulnerable members of society, particularly women and children.

The council said it was important to raise awareness around the causes and consequences of femicide and infanticide while encouraging stronger community involvement in protecting victims and preventing abuse. They encouraged young people and other stakeholders to play a more active role in preventing violence and promoting peaceful communities.

The briefing’s theme linked the protection of vulnerable people to broader efforts to consolidate peace, suggesting that the fight against violence should be part of wider efforts to strengthen social cohesion and security.

The Cameroon National Youth Council added that it will use its platform to mobilise young people around protecting life and encourage greater responsibility in addressing violence within families and communities. CNYC is also calling for stronger preventive measures, better access to justice and greater collective responsibility in tackling violence against women and children.
