Cameron approves both school board propositions on ballot

Voters in Cameron Parish approved two parishwide school board propositions as well as an ambulance service renewal that were on Saturday’s ballot.
The first part of the 10-year, 10.50 mill school board renewal was approved by 62 percent, or 545 to 338. The second part passed by 61 percent, or 536 to 342. The renewals are both expected to generate $5,402,843 annually to provide additional support to the maintenance, improvement and operations of the public elementary and secondary school system in Cameron.
A 10-year, 14.0 mill ambulance service renewal in District 2 was approved by 76 percent, or 564 to 179. The renewal is expected to generate $5,962,462 annually.
Parishwide voters rejected four constitutional amendments proposed. Amendment 3 to fund a teacher pay raise while paying down teacher retirement debt, was approved by eight votes, or 452 to 444.
For U.S. Senate the parish supported Republican state Rep. Julia Letlow by 49 percent and Democrat Jamie Davis by 38 percent.
