Bowling Green signs second Angola native, Sara Caetano  – BG Falcon Media

BGSU women’s basketball has reportedly added another player ahead of the 2026-2027 season. Head coach Fred Chmiel announced that 5-foot-8-inch guard Sara Caetano will join the program, becoming the second player from Angola to join the program this offseason. In May, the Falcons acquired 6-foot-4-inch Eugenia Ngungo, who is also native to Angola.

Caetano competed in the FIBA Women’s AfroBasket in 2023 and 2025. During the 2023 tournament, Caetano tallied 10.9 points and 4.4 rebounds in seven games played, and in 2025, she logged 13.5 points, 12.5 rebounds and 4 assists per game during the contest.

Most recently during the 2025-2026 season, Caetano performed for Quinta Dos Lombos in the Portuguese Liga Feminina. She averaged 11.4 points, 6.8 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 2.2 steals per game, while fueling her team to a 20-2 record.

“Sara is an athletic and versatile guard with a lot of experience,” said Chmiel. “She has the ability to change the game with her energy and defense. Sara will be a great fit with our style of play.”

Caetano becomes the ninth player to be added this offseason ahead of Chmiel’s fourth season as Bowling Green’s head coach.
