Born for the Pitch: World Cup baby born six weeks early reunites with Overland Park care team

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – A Kansas City area family is celebrating a series of unbelievable coincidences that brought their newborn son into the world six weeks early—right in the middle of the city’s FIFA World Cup 2026 excitement and just in time to meet his grandfather.

On Friday afternoon, Menorah Medical Center welcomed back Juan Paz, Jenna Aldridge, and Baby Valentino for a heartwarming reunion with the medical team who navigated mom and baby through an unexpected emergency delivery.

Valentino’s journey began with a whirlwind of soccer milestones and family arrivals. Juan, a FIFA World Cup volunteer on the pitch at Kansas City Stadium, and his partner, Jenna, had attended the Algeria-Austria match on June 27.

But a much bigger “kickoff” was just around the corner. On June 30, Jenna suddenly went into preterm labor—six weeks ahead of her August 11 due date.

The timing, though scary, was miraculously aligned. Juan’s father had just flown in from Colombia on June 30, arriving less than 24 hours before Valentino was born via an emergency C-section on July 1.

“This has been such an unbelievable story that, even today, we cannot believe how blessed we are,” Juan said. “To have had this incredible, although at times scary, experience—from the thrills of the FIFA World Cup to safely bringing Baby Valentino into the world during the Kansas City matches, with Papi at our side for the birth of his first grandson.”

The delivery and NICU teams at Menorah Medical Center went above and beyond to personalize the experience, decorating the delivery room and Valentino’s NICU suite with soccer-themed decor. Staff even helped the new parents find Valentino’s very first outfit: a Colombia national soccer team shirt.

Baby Valentino was healthy enough to be discharged on July 5. Just days later, Juan and his father were able to celebrate together at the high-profile Argentina vs. Switzerland World Cup quarterfinal match on July 11.

On Friday, Aug. 21, the parents returned to Menorah Medical Center to reunite with the hospital staff who cared for them during their stay.

During the reunion, Juan shared a humorous family tradition with KCTV5, revealing that his father’s obsession with the tournament runs deep—so deep that history actually repeated itself with Valentino’s early, World Cup-timed arrival.

“My dad likes [soccer] a lot,” Juan told KCTV5. “So he was not present for my brother’s and my birth because he was at the World Cup as well. So I told [Jenna] that the tradition was keeping going.”
