Boakai Heads to U.S. for UNGA, Key Talks

MONROVIA, Liberia, September 14, 2026 — President Joseph Nyuma Boakai has departed Liberia for the United States to attend the 81st United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) and hold a series of high-level engagements in Washington, D.C., and New York.

President Boakai left Liberia on September 13, according to the Executive Mansion, for a trip that will include meetings with U.S. congressional leaders, United Nations officials and members of the Liberian diaspora.

The President’s first stop is Washington, D.C., where he is expected to meet with selected congressional leaders as part of efforts to strengthen Liberia-U.S. relations and advance areas of mutual interest.

From Washington, Boakai and his delegation will travel to New York for the UN General Assembly, where he is expected to deliver Liberia’s national statement and participate in high-level meetings and side events.

The engagements are expected to provide the Liberian leader an opportunity to present the country’s priorities to international partners and engage other world leaders and officials on issues affecting Liberia and the broader international community.

Following his UNGA engagements, President Boakai and selected members of his delegation will return to the Washington metropolitan area for the Liberia Annual Diaspora Conference in Alexandria, Virginia.

Boakai is expected to deliver the keynote address at the conference, which will bring together Liberians from various countries and communities across the diaspora.

The gathering is expected to focus on Liberia’s development agenda, diaspora engagement and opportunities for Liberians abroad to contribute to the country’s economic and national development.

As part of his itinerary, President Boakai will also visit the Liberian Maritime Registry in Dulles, Virginia, the Executive Mansion said.

The presidential delegation includes Foreign Minister Sara Beysolow Nyanti; Finance and Development Planning Minister Augustine Kpehe Ngafuan; Information Minister Jerelimenk Matthew Piah; Health Minister Dr. Louis Mapleh Kpoto; Education Minister Dr. Jarso Maley Jallah; Gender, Children and Social Protection Minister Gbeme Kollie Horace; and National Security Advisor Samuel Kofi Woods, among others.

While President Boakai is out of the country, Minister of State for Presidential Affairs Samuel A. Stevquoah will chair the Cabinet in consultation with Vice President Jeremiah Kpan Koung.

The Executive Mansion said Stevquoah will remain in close communication with President Boakai throughout the President’s overseas engagements.
