The story

From between the sticks to the “Wild West”, Amakhosi goalkeeper Brandon Petersen celebrated his 31st birthday in wholesome fashion, embracing a cowboy-themed celebration with his family in Johannesburg.

“Biza” and his wife, Liezl, fully committed to the rodeo-inspired theme, dressing in cowboy hats and denim alongside their three children for the special occasion at a Johannesburg restaurant with a Wild West-style setting.

Liezl shared glimpses of the birthday celebrations on her Instagram Story, offering a look at the family enjoying some quality time together as Petersen marked another year.

The celebration also provided a welcome opportunity for the goalkeeper to switch off from football after recently being ruled out for between four and six weeks.

Petersen sustained a medial collateral ligament (MCL) injury to his left knee during a training session, leaving him facing a spell on the sidelines as he begins his recovery.

Away from the injury setback, however, his birthday offered a chance for his closest loved ones to celebrate him — with Liezl sharing a heartfelt tribute to her husband on Tuesday.

“Happy birthday, handsome. The best human with a heart of gold. The most amazing husband, who will sacrifice anything for me and his children, who is never too tired for us, and always gives his all. You have a beautiful heart; may God bless and favour you,” she wrote.
