Barcelona hope to complete World Cup winner’s signing before Joan Gamper Trophy

Barcelona’s pursuit of Rodri appears to have entered its final stretch, with the club now working towards an outcome that would have seemed difficult to imagine when the summer began: having the Spanish midfielder available for the Joan Gamper Trophy.

According to Cadena SER, Barcelona hope Rodri can join the squad in time for the traditional pre-season fixture on Wednesday, August 19.

Barcelona have already reached an agreement on personal terms with Rodri, which has changed the complexion of the operation.

The first two bids failed to convince Manchester City, but Barcelona have continued to push, while Rodri’s desire to join the reigning La Liga champions has given the club confidence that the deal can now be brought over the line.

If everything goes according to plan, the agreement could be completed between Sunday and Monday.

Clubs do not usually begin hoping to involve a player in a specific fixture unless there is genuine belief that the final stages of a deal are approaching.

Barcelona are optimistic enough to consider Rodri’s presence at the Joan Gamper Trophy, which would give supporters an immediate glimpse of one of the biggest arrivals of the summer.

There were understandable questions about the midfielder’s condition after his serious knee injury, but those concerns have since been pushed into the background.

Rodri returned to prove his importance on the international stage and played a key role in Spain’s World Cup triumph, emerging from the tournament with individual recognition as well.

That has only reinforced Barcelona’s belief that they are signing a player capable of making an immediate difference.

Barcelona have already had two attempts rejected, but their latest offer has brought the two clubs closer to an agreement.

With Rodri fully supportive of the move, attention is now turning towards the final details that would allow the operation to be completed.

Barcelona are hopeful that those details can be resolved within the next couple of days.

If the deal is completed between Sunday and Monday, as expected, there would be enough time for Rodri to travel, complete the necessary formalities and potentially be presented before or around the Joan Gamper fixture.

However, it is important to note that it does not necessarily mean he will be ready to play.
