Badawi: Egypt Secures Gas Supply for Second Straight Summer

The Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi said Egypt has successfully secured natural gas supplies during the peak electricity consumption period for the second consecutive year, ensuring stable deliveries to power plants and industrial facilities.

Badawi made the remarks during a visit to the National Advanced Transmission and Automation Centre (NATA) at the Egyptian Natural Gas Company (GASCO), where he reviewed the status of natural gas supplies and network readiness to meet summer peak demand.

GASCO Chairman Mohamed Marzouk presented an overview of the network’s operations and gas supplies, highlighting the efficiency of the control and operating systems in managing gas flows and maintaining uninterrupted supplies to the domestic market in line with pre-established plans for periods of high demand and emergency conditions.

Badawi praised the efforts and readiness of petroleum sector employees in securing natural gas and petroleum product supplies, noting that the successful delivery of gas to power plants and industrial sectors during the summer peak for the second consecutive year reflects the efficiency and coordination of the sector’s operations.

He added that proactive planning and continuous coordination between the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources (MoPMR) and the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy enabled Egypt to manage unprecedented increases in energy demand and secure the supplies needed to meet record electricity loads exceeding 40,000 megawatts (MW) during the summer.

The minister noted that advance planning, enhanced preparedness, and scenario-based response mechanisms have helped the national natural gas network respond quickly to changes and emergencies while maintaining stable and continuous supplies.

Badawi confirmed that the ministry will continue implementing its gas supply security plan through the end of the summer, including real-time monitoring of production and consumption rates and supply flows, while strengthening the readiness of the national gas network to respond promptly to any changes and ensure sustainable gas supplies to all sectors.

NATA t is the central control center for the national natural gas transmission network, operated by GASCO. It monitors and manages gas flows across the network, helping ensure stable supplies to key consumers, particularly power plants and industrial facilities.
