At least 16 people have been killed in a bus crash on Egypt’s popular Red Sea coastline.

Another 28 people were injured when the bus overturned this morning between the Red Sea towns of Dahab and Nuweiba, Egypt’s health ministry said.

Dr Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the ministry’s official spokesman, said 20 ambulances had attended the scene of the crash in the popular diving area.

The southern Sinai Peninsula is a popular holiday destination, known for scuba diving and resort cities, including Sharm El-Sheikh.

The nationalities of those involved in the crash are not yet known. The UK Foreign Office has been contacted.

Last month, 15 people were killed and 32 injured in a road accident in Egypt’s Ismailia governorate.
