From John Adams, Minna
African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Niger state has called for focus and unity among members as that is the only way to wrest power from the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) at all levels.
In achieving this, the party urged members to put personal interest behind and focus on building the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The former Minister of Youths and Sport Development, and leader of the ADC party in the state, Barrister Abdulrahman Gimba gave the advice when he host the Niger State ADC newly elected executive members to a dinner in Minna, the state capital on Friday.
He said Nigerians have seen a deliberate plot by the APC led administration in the country to weaken the opposition parties, especially the ADC ahead of the 2027 elections because of its overwhelming acceptance by the people and therefore warned that it is only unity of purpose among members that can enable them unseat the government.
The former minister said the APC led government at the center has hired all manner of characters just to disrupt the activities of the opposition parties in the country but said that such ant-democratic moves have failed as the APC government has Nigerians to contend with in 2027.
Barrister Gimba who expressed optimism that the ADC will form the next government at all levels inview of the overwhelming endorsement by Nigerians, pointed out that the ruling All Progressive Congress cannot go into contest with the ADC party in 2027, hence the desperation to weaken the party.
According to him, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s led APC government is not ready to conduct a free and fair elections in 2027 but vowed that “the ADC must ensure they abide by the rules and constitution of Nigeria while advocating for the principles of participatory democracy by engaging Nigerians.
Aside the need for unity among members, the ADC Chieftain also tasked the party to ensure that the rightful and popular people are picked as candidates in all the elective positions, stressing that “by selecting the best people at the party primaries, it will make the work easier for the party”.
Also in remark at the dinner, the Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Niger, Abdulhamid El-Waziri, accused governor Mohammed Umar Bago’s led government in the state of mismanagement of the state resources at the detriment of the masses.
He said the current APC administration in the state has not commissioned a single project in the last three years in office despite the huge allocation to the state from the federation account.
He described the three years of the APC government under governor Bago as “wasteful” in the state, saying that the government has further pushed the below poverty line.
He insisted that the ADC party will surely form the next government in the state “because the electorates are fed up with the ruling APC government which is full of deceit, unfulfilled promises, security challenges, poverty, economic hardship and deprivation”, he added
