(WKRC) — An American millionaire on a big-game hunting trip in Africa was killed after a herd of elephants charged at him and his guide.
According to the Daily Mail, 75-year-old Ernie Dosio was on a $40,000 guided hunting trip in the Lope-Okanda rainforest in Gabon searching for a yellow-backed duiker, a small, forest-dwelling antelope. That’s when Dosio and his guide unexpectedly came across a herd of five female elephants with a calf.
The elephants charged and trampled Dosio, killing him and seriously injuring the guide, said safari operator Collect Africa.
Dosio was the owner of Pacific AgriLands Inc. in California. The company manages thousands of acres of vineyards in Modesto and offers services and equipment financing to wine producers.
The U.S. Embassy in Gabon says it is coordinating the return of Dosio’s remains to California.
