BW Energy FIDs Bourdon Development in Gabon and Infill Wells in Brazil, Targeting 68 Million BOE – News and Statistics
May 21, 2026
BW Energy has given the green light to offshore development initiatives in Gabon and Brazil that are projected to lift the firm’s output beyond 100,000 barrels of oil per day by 2028. The company made a final investment decision for the Bourdon project on the Dussafu license offshore Gabon, as well as a series of new infill wells linked to the Golfinho field offshore Brazil. The combined 2P reserves for these two ventures are estimated at roughly 68 million barrels of oil equivalent.
At Bourdon, BW Energy intends to develop about 25 million barrels of oil equivalent of gross 2P reserves using a phased, infrastructure-driven strategy centered on repurposing the former Jasmine Alpha rig into a wellhead platform featuring a 12-slot wellbay. Initial output is anticipated from three wells, with first oil slated for the first quarter of 2028. The company noted that additional oil-in-place potential nearby could enable subsequent development stages. BW Energy estimates net capital expenditure for Bourdon Phase 1 at around $300 million. Partners in the Dussafu license include Panoro Energy and Gabon Oil Company.
Offshore Brazil, BW Energy has sanctioned four new wells tied back to the Golfinho FPSO, comprising three wells within the Golfinho license and one in the Camarupim license. The company indicated that this development is expected to triple production from the Golfinho area to roughly 30,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day starting in 2029. BW Energy estimates 50 million barrels of oil equivalent in 2P reserves for the Brazil project, which will utilize existing production infrastructure and gas export capacity connected to the Golfinho FPSO.
The company said these combined developments support its strategy of pursuing infrastructure-led offshore growth while reducing capital exposure and speeding up returns.
