Abia Warriors were left frustrated after goalkeeper Obinna Akuchie inspired Kun Khalifat to a goalless draw in their delayed Nigeria Premier Football League Matchday One encounter at the Enyimba International Stadium, Aba yesterday.
The game was completed yesterday after heavy rain forced its suspension on Sunday in the 73rd minute.
Abia Warriors coach Imama Amapakabo handed competitive debuts to Kelvin Ihunwo, Osimaga Duke, Effimi Nsi, Emmanuel Nnaji, Seyi Oguntayo and Chidiebere Nnachi, but his side struggled to turn possession and pressure into goals.
The hosts increased the tempo after the break, with Innocent Godwin and Ikoi Ettah replacing Duke and Nnachi in the 73rd minute. Chinedu Iwueze was introduced two minutes later as Amapakabo searched for a breakthrough.
Kun Khalifat were pushed deeper as the game progressed, but Akuchie repeatedly stood between Abia Warriors and the opening goal.
His best intervention came in added time when Israel Joseph sent a curling effort towards goal. Akuchie reacted sharply to keep it out and preserve a point for the visitors.
The Umuahia side will next travel to Kaduna to face Ranchers Bees, where Amapakabo will hope for greater efficiency in front of goal.
