“Our Ambition Is The Group Stage” — Rangers GM Ezeaku Sets Continental Target

Enugu Rangers General Manager Amobi Ezeaku has declared that the club’s ultimate ambition is to reach the group stage of the CAF Champions League as the Nigerian champions begin their continental campaign against AS Sobemap of the Benin Republic.

Rangers will face Sobemap in the first leg of their preliminary-round tie at the MKO Abiola Sports Arena in Abeokuta, with the club hosting its continental matches outside Enugu this season.

Ezeaku says the change of venue will not affect the team’s determination, insisting that Rangers are fully prepared for the challenge ahead.

The Rangers general manager acknowledged the quality of their opponents but maintained that the club is focused on taking the competition one stage at a time.

“We want to advance to the group stage, but we are not looking too far ahead. We have to take each game as it comes,” Ezeaku said.

Rangers secured their place in the CAF Champions League after winning the 2024/25 Nigeria Premier Football League title, ending the season as champions and earning the right to represent Nigeria in Africa’s premier club competition.

The Enugu side will therefore be hoping to make the most of their home advantage in Abeokuta before travelling to the Benin Republic for the return fixture.

Ezeaku believes the team has been properly prepared for the assignment and is confident the players understand the responsibility that comes with representing both Rangers and Nigeria on the continental stage.

With qualification for the group stage firmly in their sights, Rangers know they must negotiate the preliminary rounds successfully before their bigger continental ambition can become reality.

The journey begins in Abeokuta — and Rangers are determined to make every step count.
