Air Europa to launch nonstop service to Barranquilla

Flights to the Colombian city will begin in December.

Air Europa will add Barranquilla in Colombia to its long-haul network later this year.

The Spanish carrier will operate three flights a week between Madrid Barajas airport and Barranquilla from 18 December using a Boeing 787 widebody.

It will be the only scheduled carrier to operate nonstop service on the route.

Air Europa already serves Bogota and Medellin in Colombia. It describes Barranquilla as “one of the key economic and logistical engines of the Colombian Caribbean”.

The SkyTeam carrier operates a fleet of more than 60 aircraft, comprising 787-8s and -9s as well as Boeing 737s. It is in the process of adding 737 Max 8s and is scheduled to take delivery of its first Airbus A350-900 in 2028.

Air Europa has a firm order with Airbus for 40 A350-900s.

Star Alliance member Turkish Airlines is acquiring a 25-27% stake in Air Europa, which is majority-owned by Globalia. British Airways owner IAG holds a 20% stake in the carrier.
