Abyan governor announces readiness for offensive against Houthis
Mukhtar al-Rabash al-Haytami, governor of Yemen’s Abyan province and commander of its military axis, stated that forces under his command are ready to launch an offensive against the Houthis. According to him, the military is awaiting “zero hour,” while preparations are being carried out in coordination with the Saudi Arabia-led coalition, Yemen’s Presidential Leadership Council and the Ministry of Defense.
As Asharq Al-Awsat reports, the front line between the provinces of Abyan and Al-Bayda stretches for about 76 kilometers. Al-Haytami said clashes occur there regularly, while reinforcement plans include increasing combat readiness, supplying modern weapons and involving local communities and tribes in support of government forces.
Claims about Houthi cells
The governor also stated that Houthi cells had been uncovered in Abyan. According to him, security forces have detained between 120 and 150 people over recent years, whom he described as operatives of the group. The latest uncovered cell, he claimed, consisted of six people: two were detained, while four others managed to escape.

Al-Haytami claims that the detainees confessed to preparing four explosive devices for an assassination attempt against him and planning an attack on Brigadier General Ahmed al-Damani, commander of the National Shield Forces in Abyan. He also stated that there was coordination between the Houthis and terrorist organizations.
Saudi projects in the province
Separately, the governor spoke about cooperation with the Saudi Program for the Development and Reconstruction of Yemen. According to him, eight priority areas were identified during a three-day seminar, and the program approved 24 projects in the fields of electricity, water supply, healthcare, education and road infrastructure.
Among the strategic priorities, he named the Wadi Hassan Dam, which, in his assessment, should help replenish groundwater and wells supplying water to Aden, as well as restore the agricultural sector. Al-Haytami stressed that local authorities view security and development as interconnected areas of work.
