WASHINGTON — A Haitian national with more than 17 criminal convictions in Massachusetts who went viral last year while being arrested by immigration agents in Boston has been deported to Haiti, Fox News correspondent Bill Melugin first reported Tuesday.
The Department of Homeland Security confirmed that ICE removed Wisteguens Jean Quely Charles on Sept. 10. Charles, whom DHS identified as a member of the Back Block Money Gang, was arrested Jan. 22, 2025, in Mattapan, Massachusetts, by ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations Boston.
In video captured during the arrest, Charles shouted, “f**k Trump, Biden forever!” He also told officers he was not going back to Haiti.
DHS said Charles has 17 convictions, including assault and battery on a public employee, resisting arrest, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, possession with intent to distribute a class D controlled substance, possession of a class D controlled substance, possession of class C psychedelic mushrooms, carrying a dangerous weapon, carrying ammunition without a firearm ID card, and trespassing.
The Obama administration granted Charles Temporary Protected Status in February 2013 and he was admitted to the United States in July 2013. U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services terminated his TPS in July 2022. A Department of Justice immigration judge issued a final order of removal on Nov. 7, 2025.
Federal sources told Fox News that Charles exhausted every legal option to remain in the country. Sources also told the publication that he was combative on the deportation flight, which originated in Louisiana, and made profane, threatening remarks about President Donald Trump and his family.
“This illegal alien gang member from Haiti had quite the rap sheet, with convictions for assault and battery on a public employee, resisting arrest, and drug trafficking, among other heinous crimes,” DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin said in a statement. “He went viral for praising Biden as he was getting arrested, because he knew that the Biden Administration’s open borders turned America into a paradise for criminals like him. The Trump Administration has finally done what both the Obama and Biden Administrations failed to do and deported this criminal back where he belongs. Once again: if you’re here illegally, we will find you, arrest you, and remove you from the United States of America.”
“This gang member and criminal illegal alien loved Obama, Biden, and open-border Democrats who let him enter our country with TPS and allowed him to terrorize American citizens,” The White House said in a statement to Fox. “Thanks to the Trump administration, he is now off our streets and back in Haiti.”
