Cyprus, Greece and Egypt to hold El Alamein summit
Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis will hold a trilateral summit in El Alamein, Egypt, on Tuesday. The leaders plan to discuss key geopolitical developments in the region and the further strengthening of cooperation among the three countries, Cyprus Mail reports.
Summit agenda
The meeting is scheduled to begin at 13:00, followed by press statements. One of the topics of the talks will be the Mecca Agreement, signed by Türkiye, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan on August 7.
Last week, Christodoulides said that summit participants would focus primarily on the situation in the wider region and opportunities to further strengthen trilateral cooperation. According to him, Cyprus, Greece and Egypt will discuss how they can help create conditions for security and cooperation in a region of particular geostrategic importance.

Meetings of the Cypriot president
Before the summit begins, the Cypriot president will separately meet with Abdel Fattah el-Sisi. Christodoulides will also attend the opening ceremony of the El Alamein International Air Show as the Egyptian president’s guest of honor.
Answering a question about the Mecca Agreement, Christodoulides noted that it would be part of a broader discussion of regional developments. According to him, the summit will consider all current developments in the region.
The Cypriot president also drew attention to the European Union’s growing interest in the region. The second EU-Gulf summit is due to take place in Saudi Arabia in October, and Christodoulides said he would attend it.
