Morocco’s Tawfik Bentayeb Scores First Anderlecht Goal Against Mechelen

Rabat – Moroccan international Tawfik Bentayeb scored his first goal for RSC Anderlecht on Friday, helping his side secure a 1-0 victory over Mechelen in the sixth round of the Belgian Pro League.

Bentayeb broke the deadlock in the 43rd minute, finding the back of the net to give Anderlecht the lead before the break.

The goal was his first since joining the Belgian club during the summer transfer window and provided an early highlight in his new chapter in Belgium.

The 24-year-old moved to Anderlecht from Moroccan club Union Touarga on a four-year contract after an impressive spell in French football.

Bentayeb spent time on loan with French clubs Rodez and ESTAC Troyes before making his permanent move to Belgium. His most recent season at Troyes was particularly impressive, with the Moroccan finishing the 2025-26 Ligue 2 campaign as the league’s top scorer with 18 goals.

His goals played a key role in Troyes’ promotion campaign and helped raise his profile ahead of the summer transfer window.

His performances in France also attracted interest from several European clubs. Feyenoord were reportedly among the clubs monitoring the forward, while German side Schalke 04 were also linked with a potential move.

Bentayeb eventually opted for Anderlecht, joining one of Belgium’s most prominent clubs as he continues his development at a higher level.

The Moroccan forward has also already earned senior international caps with the Atlas Lions, adding an international dimension to his growing club career.

His first goal for Anderlecht comes at an important stage as he adapts to Belgian football. After making his mark in Ligue 2, Bentayeb will now look to reproduce his scoring form with his new club.

Against Mechelen, he made the perfect start by scoring the decisive goal and helping Anderlecht claim all three points.
