Yemen’s STC Condemns Crackdown on Peaceful Protesters in Hadramawt and Aden

Aden — The Southern Transitional Council (STC), through its Rights and Freedoms Committee in the Advisory Council, strongly condemned the repressive practices and blatant violations carried out by security and military forces affiliated with the so‑called legitimate government against peaceful demonstrators in Hadramawt’s Seiyun district and the capital Aden.

In a political and human rights statement, the STC said these forces used military power to intimidate unarmed crowds, launching mass arrests and firing live ammunition directly at demonstrators, resulting in injuries and spreading fear among residents.

The statement noted that violations extended to Mukalla, where activists’ belongings were confiscated and some were detained for carrying southern symbols and flags. In Aden, security forces stormed Al‑Orudh Square in Khormaksar, tore down banners and posters of the peaceful rally, and fired live rounds at the displayed symbols, in what the STC described as a systematic and hostile campaign to silence the southern popular movement.

The council stressed that such actions constitute a grave violation of public rights and freedoms, calling for accountability and reaffirming the right of citizens to peacefully express their aspirations.
